The Ocracoke Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse still in operation on the Eastern Coast of the United States. In 1986 they purchased the historic John Wilson McWilliams House [ca.1880], adjacent to the Ocracoke Lighthouse. The first lighthouse the government built on the Outer Banks was as at Ocracoke. Ocracoke’s 75’ tall white tower with a steady beam is the island’s most recognizable landmark.
