Of course, this “refurbishment” has been a bit unique in the sense that the attraction didn’t have to completely shut down for work to be done during park hours. Because work on the drop shaft doesn’t completely close the ride, Disney has been a little bit more lenient with their end date for the work. To mitigate the ride’s lessened capacity, fewer FastPasses were distributed for the attraction.
The work will be done in phases so the park can continue to keep one side of the attraction open while the other is down for refurbishment. (Which is probably why you couldn’t get one even weeks out at some points.)
