This is a beautiful, albeit long hike in the Lake Tahoe area through Desolation Wilderness. There is a park for kids, and a grassy area near the beach. Leading into the heart of Desolation Wilderness (a permit is required), the Eagle Lake trail offers forest, lake and far reaching views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra high country. It's a great photo-op and it's so low commitment time-wise that it's a great quick addition to a Tahoe trip.
